Myobrace® for Children

Myobrace® is a removable pre-orthodontic appliance worn 1–2 hours a day and overnight. Paired with daily exercises, it helps correct mouth breathing, tongue posture and swallowing to support healthy jaw growth — which may reduce the need for braces later.

Why Choose Myobrace®?

Myobrace® treatment means wearing a comfortable, removable appliance for 1–2 hours a day and overnight while sleeping. Paired with daily Myobrace® Activities, it is designed to train the tongue and facial muscles to work well, which may support straighter teeth, easier breathing, and natural jaw growth.

The Four Stages of Myobrace® Treatment

Myobrace guides growing jaws through four stages, from early habits to long-term stability.

Habits • Arches • Alignment • Stability

Myobrace pre-orthodontic oral appliance

Stage 1: Reshaping Oral Habits

The first phase works to reshape oral habits: nasal breathing instead of mouth breathing, the tongue resting on the palate, a correct swallow, and lips closed at rest. These habits are commonly linked to crowded teeth and small jaws. Addressing them early, while the bones are still growing, may reduce the need for traditional braces later.

What Happens

Typical Age & Appliance: ages 3–8, myobrace® J-series.

Stage 2: Expanding the Arches

For some children, especially over seven, the upper jaw needs help to widen and make room for the teeth and tongue. Alongside Myobrace® we may use the Biobloc or Farrell Bent Wire System™ for older children, and Myolay™ for younger ones, to guide arch development.

What Happens

Typical Age & Appliance: ages 7+, arch-expansion device alongside Myobrace®.

Stage 3: Aligning the Teeth

As permanent teeth emerge, the focus shifts to aligning them naturally with Myobrace® for Teens, which lets teeth settle without the constant force of fixed braces. Success depends on consistent daily and overnight wear. If extra alignment is needed, a shorter course of braces can be combined with Myobrace® for Braces.

What Happens

Typical Age & Appliance: teens, myobrace® for Teens (± for Braces).

Stage 4: Long-Term Stability

The final phase is retention. Reinforcing the habits learned earlier can reduce the need for a permanent wire retainer; a temporary retainer may be used after any orthodontic work. When the habits hold, the results hold with them.

What Happens

Typical Age & Appliance: ongoing retention phase, temporary retainer, if needed.
